Now we here at bestforfilm are all a bit partial to a bit of Adam Sandler (some more begrudgingly than others). Yes, he finds himself perpetually playing the same zero-to-hero role, but if it the down-on-his-luck-loser-inevitably-finds-success-and-the-girl formula ain’t broke then why fix it? (And truth be told, the less said about Señor Sandler trying to break out of his mould, cough Punch Drunk Love, the better.)

With the massive success of Wicked – the musical that tells The Wizard Of Oz from the Wicked Witch’s point of view, and the announcement that Disney plan to release a film about Malificent – the witch from Sleeping Beauty, it seems everyone wants to take a fresh look at an old tale. Screw the good guys, it’s all about the other side of the coin.
Hurrah! It’s official! Chris Evans has signed on the dotted line, and is now going to be playing Captain America in the upcoming Marvel flicks.
Well done Chris, you fought off a lot of stiff competition, with other actors considered including Michael Cassidy, Patrick Flueger, Mike Vogel, John Krasinski, Chace Crawford and Ryan Phillippe. The only problem now is that we have seen Evans in a super-flick before, as Johnny Storm in Fantastic Four. Does it matter?
You know what we enjoy doing? Going to the future. We also enjoy going back to the future, but we gotten into copyright problems with that before. The point is, we’ve risked life and limb to discover what films are hitting our screens in upcoming weeks. Don’t ask us how we’ve done it. All we’ll say is that the Wikipedia Towers of the future are a terrifying and overly bear-guarded place. So, should you save our pennies for an upcoming epic, or splurge like there’s no tomorrow on the flicks out now? We’ve got the answers right here.
In American Football – the opening credits of The Blind Side inform us – the highest paid player is the Quarterback. The second highest player is the Left Tackle – as the first bill you pay might be the mortgage, but the second is always the insurance. Now for anyone not American (a spectrum that very much includes us), this poignant opening message is kind of lost. But what emerges in the preceding film is an uplifting true story that emphasizes a message of the importance of protection, loyalty and trust. Which we’re pretty sure is what the Left Tackle thing is about. Yeah, we totally speak Football!
Kick-down, touch-up and homoerotic falling down!
I think it’s fair to say that if Toy Story 3 isn’t absolutely brilliant the world will rise up into anarchy. No pressure guys, but seriously, the future of Hollywood depends on you. Helpfully, initial responses seem to be overwhelmingly positive (but we’re still trying not to get too excited after being burned by Alice).
The official trailer of the new Predators re-boot isn’t out till thursday (three days to go!), but if you’re too excited to wait for a little peek at the new film, you’re in luck! The official website has posted a sneaky preview of the trailer, with commentary by producer Robert Rodriguez.
