Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is Seth Grahame-Smith’s best-selling adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic. In this version, heroine Elizabeth Bennet also has to fight off zombies after the outbreak of a virus that turns dead people into flesh-eating zombies.

We all heard the news a few months ago, a film remake (yawn) of My Fair Lady, directed by Joe Wright- the man who brought us Keira Knightley being all big-chinny in Pride and Prejudice and Keira Knightley playing ‘my chin is quite sad’ in Atonement. But wait! Today it’s been announced that this whole Joe Wright palava is one big porky.

We can’t help but notice that Hollywood loves to up the explosion-and-sex factor with Britain’s classic literature. One only needs to look at the bare chest of Robert Downey Jr as the new Sherlock Holmes to see that the silver screen doesn’t mind taking a few liberties. But what other classic-but-uncool tales are Hollywood missing out on? We re-imagine some great British classics the way Spielberg would do ’em…

You wouldn’t think pleasant comedic romps through the English countryside and Jessica Biel would go together, but somehow in this instance they do. Biel shines with charm and charisma, and Kristin Scott Thomas and Colin Firth are equally strong in supporting roles. Easy Virtue, as the title suggests, is a great night’s easy entertainment, a little gem of a comedy that you’re sure to enjoy more than you expected.

This film adaptation of Steve Lopez’s real-life friendship with schizophrenic musician Nathaniel Ayers has two of the year’s best performances from stand-out actors. But a cheesy screenplay and cliched directorial treatment make it a little forgettable.
