International Oscar Season at the Tricycle Theatre
Ahead of the 2012 Academy Awards on 26th February, the Tricycle in Kilburn, North London will play host to a 10-day season in its luxury cinema, showcasing and celebrating the best international film submissions to this year’s award for Best Foreign Language Film.
Taking place between Tuesday 14th and Thursday 23rd February, the season explores the wide range of world cinema on offer from social realism (Beyond, Sweden) and animation (Tatsumi, Singapore) through to thrilling horrors (The Silent House, Uruguay). Highlights include: 2012 Golden Globe winner (and double Oscar nominee) A Separation (Iran), a moral drama focusing on a couple’s failing marriage; the UK Premiere for Argentinian film Aballay, an intense drama about revenge; Oscar nominee Footnote, an Israeli drama about two warring academics who happen to be father and son; and Wim Wenders’ balletic masterpiece on the famous choreographer and dancer, Pina (Germany).
The programme will include special preview screenings of Once Upon a Time in Anatolia (Turkey) and Breathing (Austria) as well as Q&As with Lithuanian director Kristijonas Vildžiūnas (Back To Your Arms), Romanian actor Andras Hathazi (Morgen) and Swiss cinematographer Lorenz Merz (Summer Games).
