Right, this is mashing our brains – follow closely. Amanda Righetti – you know, her off The Mentalist – has reportedly been cast in The Avengers. The smart money’s on her playing either Carol Danvers aka Ms Marvel (unlikely in our opinion: it’s a bit late to bring in more superpowered characters, and in any event Joss Whedon’s explicitly said that Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow will be the only female Avenger) or Sharon Carter aka Agent 13, the sister and subsequently niece (yay retconning!) of Hayley Atwell’s character Peggy Carter in Captain America: The First Avenger.

All of this makes a reasonable amount of sense. BUT Righetti has just been listed on the IMDb entry for Captain America – as a SHIELD agent. This is totally mad. Lest we forget, Captain America: The First Avenger is set during the Second World War but The Avengers is set in the present day, hence Steve Rogers being the first Avenger – he spends sixty-odd years in suspended animation before being revived to kick some non-free market ass, so the prospect of Righetti appearing in both films makes very little sense.
