An exciting new poster for the Timur Bekmambetov’s “found footage” movie project Apollo 18 has been released following an exciting viral video marketing campaign.

Apollo 18 is based around the conspiracy theory that the later Apollo missions were not cancelled, but did in fact encounter alien life on the moon. A promising concept certainly, and the viral footage seen below is both atmospheric and appropriately creepy.

A new “Found footage” movie seems to be announced every week lately, but on the whole this format does lend itself to an intense and frightening experience for the audience, without having to resort to flashy CGI. With JJ Abrams’ Super 8 and Oren Peli’s Area 51 also set to have similar chills for us in 2011, fans of this sub-genre will look forward to finding out which film takes the prize as the best “Aliens on camera” picture.

With this and the earlier news of the new Neil Blomkamp short, it seems we are going viral crazy today, but Apollo 18 definately seems to be one to watch as it gears up for its planned March release.
