Gemma Arterton and Saoirse Ronan to star in Byzantium

Gemma Arterton and Oscar nominee Saoirse Ronan are set to star as mother and daughter in Byzantium, a forthcoming film by The Crying Game director Neil Jordan which returns to the bloody subject matter of his earlier film Interview With The Vampire. God knows we don’t have enough films about perky teenage bloodsuckers…

Their eight-year age difference notwithstanding, Arterton will play a vampire who gets her daughter (Ronan) onto the red stuff (perhaps Dr Miriam Stoppard recommends it). Helena Bonham Carter, Ralph Fiennes and Jeremy Irvine are also reportedly appearing in the adaptation of Moira Buffini’s play A Vampire Story, in which the two sanguinarians move to a small British town and pose as sisters.

Byzantium isn’t due onscreen until 2013, so it’ll probably be a while before we get any more news on this; still, you can always pass the time by rewatching your Twilight box set and hating yourself.
