Godzilla VS Akira Takarada – again!
Everyone loves a giant lizard with a mechanical roar, atomic breath and a nuclear pulse. That’s why there’s been so many film incarnations of Godzilla after IshirÅ Honda’s original in 1954. And now there’ll be another one! Gareth Edwards, who is no stranger to dealing with big, scary creatures after his 2010 debut Monsters, has already began filming Godzilla, which will be out in 2014.
Here at Best For Film we haven’t forgotten the last Godzilla reboot – which was HORRIBLY, TERRIBLY BAD, so we’re breathing a radioactive, fiery sigh of relief that Edwards is showing respect to the original and casting Akira Takarada. Takarada played navy diver Hideto Ogata in the original 1954 film – he even headed to Tokyo beach to destroy the beast first time around! However, it seems he wasn’t that successful as Godzilla went on to destroy many more cities and kill many more innocents while Takarada went on to appear in an astounding FIVE MORE GODZILLA FILMS: Mothra vs. Godzilla (1964), Invasion of Astro-Monster (1965) Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster (1966), Godzilla vs. Mothra (1992) and Godzilla: Final Wars (2004). To make things even more impressive, he played a different character in each film.
Anyone would think he’d be sick of the sight of the thing but, after a picture of Takarada and Edwards appeared on Twitter, it seems he’s all set to take on the monster again, in a walk on part at least. Takarada will be joining a large cast including, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Juliette Binoche, and BRYAN CRANSTON (we put the last name in capitals because we love him more than life itself).
