LOL in this case stands for “Kill us all now please please let us die”.
Edward Cullen is rolling in his not grave right now.
Remember how good Buffy was? And Firefly and Serenity? And Angel? And Firefly? DO YOU REMEMBER? DO YOU? Here at BFF we remember because, much like elephants well-versed in the art of watching films and TV shows and writing nonsense about them, WE NEVER FORGET ABOUT THOSE FILMS AND TV SHOWS. To cut a long story very short (because we’re all wetting ourselves over the release of Cabin in the Woods and need to get to the toilet pronto) we bring you a Top Ten list that would make even Terrence Malick quake in his hermit boots. So here, take these words and read them knowing there’s no way you will ever be as good a person as Joss Whedon. Oh, and, we should probably say….SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS.
Whit Stillman’s campus comedy centres on a group of quirky female friends and the collection of loser boys who are making their lives hell. Veering from moments of well-crafted realism to irritating quirkiness, Damsels in Distress is a frustratingly directionless film which is lifted almost solely by the winning performance of its lead, Greta Gerwig.
It’s National Priest Day 2012 everyone! Congratulations, priests of the world! You earned it! Wait, what’s that? There’s no such thing as National Priest Day? Well then why is there so much priest stuff going on at the cinema at the moment? Like this thing and this other nonsense? Whatever the reason, BFF is proud to bring you a list of the top ten sexiest clergymen from the world of cinema. DISCLAIMER: This is the top ten list that the Vatican DOESN’T want you to see. Or whatever, they probably aren’t aware of its existence.
Cristián Jiménez’s romantic drama is carried by an interesting premise, but its restrained tone and shades of artificial whimsy make it difficult to emotionally invest in the story. Focussing on a man who finds himself driven to obsessively narratavise his own life, this distance is perhaps appropriate but, ultimately, it means that Bonsái leaves you a little cold.
Eric Cantona gets top billing in this new French thriller, but it’s lead actress Karine Vanasse who steals the show, out-acting everyone to the point that it gets a bit embarrassing. If you like your movies full of insane plot-twists, shady mothers and lots of running then Switch is probably for you. On the other hand, if you’re a fan of films that essentially make sense you might want to look elsewhere.
