Harry Potter conjures up a billion dollars

Well, it took 19 whole days, but Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 2 has finally crawled its way to a billion dollar take worldwide. That means it ties with Avatar in the fastest-billion-making-film-ever competition, and pretty much guarantees that J K Rowling will be alright.

Although Transformers had a two week lead, The Boy Who Earnt beat it to the billion mark – which just goes to show us once and for all that dragons exploding out of buildings are better than Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. The staggering amount taken means that Potter currently ranks eighth on the all time world-wide chart, ahead of The Dark Knight but behind Alice In Bloody Wonderland. But bear in mind that Potter has yet to open in China – so in all likelyhood it will move up the list pretty quickly, possibly even beating out LOTR Return Of The King for the number three spot. Does it deserve to? Oh come now, as if that was ever the point…
