It might seem reasonable to assume that a film capable of bringing them together would be pretty bloody special, mightn’t it? Unfortunately, it seems that all it takes is a production company with very deep pockets. Seeing Red is a truly unhappy experience which you are advised to avoid.

The common supposition for the location choice is that Warner Bros. very much enjoyed the tax breaks they got when shooting Green Lantern there earlier this year. But could there be another, more reptilian, reason?

Comedy veteran Drew Barrymore and an astonishingly buff Justin Long sparkle in this bromance/romance about all that stuff that rom-coms are about. Though it uses every trick in the book, fantastic lead performances, a killer soundtrack and a focus on comedy rather than fluff makes Going The Distance a cut above the rest.

Hong Kong legend Jackie Chan may be comfortably in his fifties, but he still manages to put many of the action genre’s young pretenders to shame with his acrobatics in The Spy Next Door. Targeted at families, Brian Levant’s high-tech comedy marries the martial arts prowess of the leading man with slapstick and lots of family friendly violence. What can we say, kids love people getting hit in the face with pans. Bless them.

Paul Greengrass’s Green Zone centres on one of the fundamental questions surrounding the Iraq war – when American and British forces withdraw completely from Iraq will the lasting legacy be peace and democracy? Or will it will be a deep-rooted suspicion that the infamous weapons of mass destruction, the supposed justification for the invasion, never existed? It’s an interesting question, though the answers in this film are perhaps just a little too easy.

A British re-make of a black French comedy, Wild Target is a film that, sadly, never quite hits the bullseye. Bill Nighy, Rupert Grint, Rupert Everett, Martin Freeman and Emily Blunt all lent their hands to this crime caper, with a script never quite lives up to the talent around it. Despite its stellar cast and romping pace, the team are let down by bad jokes, sloppy storytelling and cliche characters.

Kevin Bacon has signed up to play the lover of an adulterous wife in an as-yet-untitled comedy. Written by Dan Fogelman and helmed by I Love You Phillip Morris directors John Requa and Glenn Ficarra, the new comedy will star the always-hilarious Steve Carell as a lovable loser married to cheating wife Julianne Moore.
