Hurrah for the bloody goriness that is Guy Fawkes day! A proud, dastardly time indeed in our national history, and a great excuse to give children some fire to mess around with. So considering the film world is usually so ready and willing to hijack our most exciting tales, our question is, where are the films to accompany Bonfire Night?

Could it be? Kevin Bacon back in our hearts, where he belongs? Maybe not. But the story that made him famous; that of a teenager who discovers that his new hometown has outlawed rock music and dancing, might very well be back on our screens. And who’s heading it up? Non other than Black Snake Moan’s Craig Brewer.

After the world-domination success of the High School Musical trilogy, it’s only natural that the big dogs at Disney attempt a movie to fill the gaping gap in the tween market. And what have we learnt from High School Musical? Kids like High Schools. Kids like Dancing. Kids like other kids looking really fancy. Cue, Prom.

Paramount have announced their reboot of Footloose is no more. Seems they’re finally listening to the public’s cries of “Dear God, no more remakes!” Either that or both their star director and lead actor have dropped out.

Marc Webb has been confirmed as director for Sony’s Spider-Man reboot. The studio stated in a press release yesterday that the 500 Days of Summer director is officially signed on for the film.

There are standout performances from talented newcomers and brief moments of pathos from screen veterans. But that’s not enough to save this poor man’s High School Musical from becoming a pale, homogenised version of the exuberant original.

We can’t help but notice that Hollywood loves to up the explosion-and-sex factor with Britain’s classic literature. One only needs to look at the bare chest of Robert Downey Jr as the new Sherlock Holmes to see that the silver screen doesn’t mind taking a few liberties. But what other classic-but-uncool tales are Hollywood missing out on? We re-imagine some great British classics the way Spielberg would do ’em…

Get a head start on the new year, tentatively titled ‘Year of the Dragon’ (by me at least), thanks to the first featurette for Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch.

Oh boy. Charlie St. Cloud may be handsome but he sure is weird. Really intense and looks like he’s going to burst into tears at any moment. And he does. Quite a lot. After the death of his younger brother, Charlie’s sense of responsibility for the fatal accident finds him as a caretaker of the graveyard where his brother is buried. And what does he do for fun? He hangs out with the dead eleven-year-old every day at sunset. Party time!
