It’s no big news that Hollywood loves an unoriginal idea. Sequels, prequels, reboots, remakes – if it’s already made money, it’s going to make more. The latest Tinseltown news to set your eyeballs rolling is that we can now expect a 4th instalment from the Beverly Hills Cop series. It’s been 10 years since Eddie Murphy’s trash talking cop has graced our screens. The franchise is the pinnacle of 80s nostalgia – and that’s probably where it should remain.

This Friday, Dreamworks’ Shrek spin-off Puss in Boots is hitting the cinemas. To celebrate this occasion, we are taking a look back at some of our most beloved onscreen cats. We’ve also invited along noted cat scientist Professor Snowypaws to help us out.

Actors are a busy lot. All the research, workshopping, meetings, studio time, press releases, premiere events, Oscar screenings and after parties must get exhausting. And that’s just for one film. But, there are some go-getting young gunslingers in the acting community who want to go the extra mile and really get involved with the world outside the film industry. And here they are. A list of my favourite actors who want to make a difference.

It was only a matter of time before Slash got involved with the movies. I just thank God it wasn’t a cameo role in Austin Powers. But this is good. He’s only gone and started up his own horror movie production company. TREAT!

Steve Carell and Paul Rudd don’t so much star as blackhole in Dinner For Schmucks; a deeply unfunny comedy so stupid it makes Kenan And Kel look like The Importance Of Being Earnest. An army of talented cameos only highlight the ludicrous, all-encompassing foulness of this creation, and the only reason it scrapes a half-star is that Flight Of The Conchord’s Jermaine Clement manages to steer clear of the worst bits as a vaguely amusing goat/artist.

A shagadelic bit of news? Or is it as tired as Austin’s sex jokes? We’re not even sure what we’re feeling about this so far, but we have to admit, we’re intrigued. According to Jay Roach, the director of all three Austin outings, the time may have come for the International Man Of Mystery to don those glasses once more.

Michel Hazanavicius’ sequel to the French hit Nest of Spies, OSS 117: Lost in Rio is a lame, laugh-free excuse for satire. Taking its cue from offensive stereotyping and an inability to decide if it’s screwball or satire, Jean Dujarin’s secret agent neither tickles your funny bone or provides action-based thrills.
