Hollywood is big business. They spend millions producing top notch blockbuster films, paying big Hollywood stars huge salaries to star in their movies and creating the most impressive CGI effects, all to get us through the door and part with our cash. However, despite all this, we here at Best for Film (just like a MasterCard advert) like nothing more than to pedantically pick out all their mistakes. Priceless! So here is our collection of the best and worst outtakes and bloopers and mistakes in movies.
Rumours have been zipping back and forth for a while now, but we can officially confirm that Pixar are currently working on Monster Inc 2. We’ve got mixed feelings about this news, as messing with a glorious original like Monsters Inc is always going to be playing with fire, but at the same time, this is Pixar. Generally speaking, these guys don’t do messing up.
We wonder how often it is that the almighty Mouse House comes crawling back to someone they’ve fired? Henry Selik, creator of Coraline, has agreed to work for Disney after being let go by them some years back.
Finally, a kids film that deserves its 3D pricetag. Since Avatar, we’ve seen a lot of gratuitous 3D labels being slapped on films that didn’t need it, purely to hike up the cost of the tickets. Even watching the hallowed Up – as beautiful as it was -we never really thought those pesky glasses added much. However, with How To Train Your Dragon, Dreamworks have created a truly stunning piece of 3D film; immersive, beautiful and gorgeously rich. The story may be a little run of the mill, but the overall experience make this film a must-see for kids and big kids everywhere.
Last week we reported that there’s a new Disney film in the works, a re-telling of Sleeping Beauty from the wicked witch’s POV. There was no name attached to the big bad part of Maleficent at the time, but it could be that the Queen of Hollywood herself, Angelina Jolie, might step up to play the role.
Disney are planning to make a movie from the point of view of the ultimate bad-gal – Maleficent, the woman who curse the beautiful dozy maiden Sleeping Beauty to sleep forever. And she turns into a dragon quite a lot, which is also pretty bad-ass. It’s sounds very Wicked to us (ie the musical that tells The Wizard Of Oz from the wicked witch’s point of view. Not that we’ve seen it. Or own the soundtrack.)
It’s becoming the norm for Disney to drip-feed us movie information, trailers and posters over a ridiculously long amount of time. But you know what? When it comes to Toy Story 3, we just don’t mind.
We’ve been getting little hints, pictures and whispers about the new Toy Story characters for months now, and we’re excited to report that today Dis/Pix have finally released the final poster with them all on it. And it looks pretty bloody epic. In a toy way. So the best way. Can you spot your favourite?
It’s always nice to stay ahead of the curve, if only so you can feel unneccessarily smug in front of friends and loved ones. With this in mind Best For Film brings you what you need to know about next week’s film releases. Have a read, plan your week accordingly, and practice that lovely self-satisfied smile we all love you for…
What have the critics made of Alice In Wonderland so far? Is it actually worth your last quid? (ha, yeah, add like seventeen). We’ve helpfully scoured the net for the critics opinions since its Leicester Square opening last week, figuring that until we see it, we might as well let you know what the others are saying. It’s getting quite mixed responses so there’s no denying that the situation is getting (all together now) curiouser and curiouser…
