  • Orange(Wednesday)s and Lemons #103

The Oscars are finally over! At last, we can get back to the business of criticising films as they come out rather than spaffing on about ones that launched six months ago. Make the most of the 103rd OWLs, because the 104th, 105th and 106th will largely be given over to mercilessly destroying Safe Haven.

  • Cheat Sheet: Ben Affleck

Ben Affleck is the name on everybody’s lips this week after the phenomenal success of Argo at the 85th Academy Awards. But what do you really know about the critically acclaimed director? Not a lot past that scathing Team America song, we’ll bet…

  • Monday Face/Off: Rachel McAdams

To The Wonder is out now, and among the cast of Terence Malick’s newest impenetrable drama is a certain Canadian with a great big forehead and a great big heart. But will Rachel McAdams’ role be an inspired return to form for 2004’s Hollywood It Girl or a sad little footnote to a fading career? We don’t know, obviously, so we’re just having an argument.

  • Friday Drinking Game #76 – Baz Lurhmann

Hello Friday drinkers! This week we have decided to created a boozy game in honour of the Australian extravaganza maker Baz Lurhmann to mark the UK rerelease of his hits Romeo + Juliet and Moulin Rouge! Join us, darlings, for a bit of insufferable inebriation. Put on your dancing shoes and grab your copy of Gatsby, for this one’s gonna need some tools.

  • Top Ten Oscar Moments

With the Oscars almost upon us once again, we at Best For Film thought that we might profit from a review of some of the highlights said gushing award ceremony has provided us with over the years. For the sake of variety, this laudable list shall include both the famous and the infamous, the highs and the lows, the sugar and the bitters. Such a cocktail should be swirled in the mouth like the metaphorical marbles of Sir Laurence Olivier’s plumy tones, or alternatively expelled in disgust like a Michael Moore acceptance speech. The choice, our BFF Academy, is yours.

To celebrate Sammy the turtle’s epic return to the big blue screen in A Turtle’s Tale: Sammy’s Great Escape (in 3D, no less!), we’ve compiled a list of our favourite cinematic members of the order Testudines. We love a bit of turtle action here at BFF, and you know you can always count on us to deliver a comprehensive list of Hollywood reptiles (not terrapins, though, those guys are dicks). Has YOUR favourite chelonian made our Top 10? Read on to find out!

  • Orange(Wednesday)s and Lemons #102

Well, it’s another incredibly boring week for cinema. Surely nobody could squeeze eight hundred words of fun and frolics out of a box office that’s mostly 90s Leo, past-it Paul Rudd and absolutely any Danny Dyer at all? Well, perhaps nobody could – but four nobodies working together have got a chance. This week’s breakdown of what not to see, brought to you by the cream of BFF:

  • Top 10 fairytales that should be made into films

To celebrate the upcoming release of Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, complete with Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton as a ridiculously attractive (and probably incestuous) witch-busting brother and sister duo, we’ve decided to take a look at the top 10 fairytales which DESERVE to be made into films. For the good of all of us…

  • Glasgow Film Festival 2013: Round-Up #1

With the Glasgow Film Festival commencing its 9th year, we sent along two of our Highland based contributors to bring you their verdict on the line-up. Patrick Harley, determined to see an obscene amount of films over a short period of time, will be using what seconds he has spare to provide round-ups as the festival proceeds. Meanwhile when the festival ends, the fun continues, with Steven Neish on hand to select his Best of the Fest – unmissable gems you’ll be rushing to see when they come to a cinema near you. Here’s what happened on Patrick’s first day…
