You’ve seen the lists of forthcoming blockbusters, superheroes and potential Oscar-fodder, but what are the 2012 films you haven’t heard of and have no interest in seeing? H Anthony Hildebrand has all the inessential (and made up) details.
A joyful, rich and eye-meltingly beautiful celebration of cinema, an homage to artistry throughout the ages and at its roots a love story, plain and simple – silent film The Artist is as close to perfect as we’re ever likely to get. It might be a little early to place this as the best film of 2012, but frankly, no-one could blame them for being quietly (very quietly) confident about the matter.
When the credits rolled on Clerks II with the distinct feeling that a much-loved Kevin Smith chapter had closed, it was hard to see what his next move would be. With news that Red State, a so-called horror movie about a far-right Christian cult, was in the pipeline, it seemed as if Kevin Smith had left his Askewniverse behind completely. Well, not only is Red State Smith’s best film to date, but the similarities between it and his previous nine offerings are more numerous than one might expect; pointing to a director at the peak of his craft.
Actually, he said it’s “One film cleft in twain.” Hee hee, he said ‘cleft’!
Still don’t know when we’ll get to see it, but it looks pretty badass.
