Last week we reported that Bourne writer Tony Gilroy had taken on the directing position for the fourth Bourne film; The Bourne Legacy. The question was, was Matt Damon going to get involved? We can confirm today that big man Bourne will NOT feature in the new film (what?!), and so Matt Damon is out on his ear.
Much like The Sugababes (we start most news stories with that statement), it could be that the final Bourne product ends up looks absolutely nothing like its first incarnation. We’ve heard today that writer Tony Gilroy has taken over from Paul Greengrass as the director of Bourne: Legacy, and there’s no Matt Damon confirmation in sight. Lordy.
Paul Greengrass’s Green Zone centres on one of the fundamental questions surrounding the Iraq war – when American and British forces withdraw completely from Iraq will the lasting legacy be peace and democracy? Or will it will be a deep-rooted suspicion that the infamous weapons of mass destruction, the supposed justification for the invasion, never existed? It’s an interesting question, though the answers in this film are perhaps just a little too easy.
Looks like Paul Greengrass has fallen in love with a brand new project – and when we say ‘brand new’ we mean the Hollywood version of brand new, ie, a re-make of something old. He’ll be helming a new interpretation of Treasure Island, produced by Sherlock Holmes’ Lionel Wigram, and apparently it’ll be a stylized version of the classic tale. What that actually means, we don’t know. But hey, stylized! Sounds fancy, right?
It’s always nice to stay ahead of the curve, if only so you can feel unnecessarily smug in front of friends and loved ones. With this in mind Best For Film brings you what you need to know about next week’s film releases. Have a read, plan your week accordingly, and practice that lovely self-satisfied smile we all love you for…
Paul Greengrass’s The Green Zone centres on one of the fundemental questions surrounding the Iraq war – When American and British forces withdraw completely from Iraq – a military strategy which seems unthinkable seven years into the campaign – will the lasting legacy be peace and democracy? Or will it will be a deep-rooted suspicion that the infamous weapons of mass destruction, the supposed justification for the invasion, never existed? It’s an interesting question, though the answers behind it are perhaps just a little too easy.
Oh dear, they’re all at it. First Sony shocks the world by rebooting Spiderman less than 10 years after the original film came out, and now rumour has it that the Bourne series might be going down the prequel route too.
The as-yet-untitled fourth installment in the Bourne series suffered a massive setback this week, with director Paul Greengrass quitting in what’s rumoured to be a dispute over the script.
