All hail Shane Black, the genius behind the latest Iron Man film. Bursting with humour, crammed with more twists than a bag of fusilli and built around a plot that actually – I’ll be damned! – holds together under scrutiny, Iron Man 3 is far and away the best of the series, and certainly the funniest offering from Marvel so far. That’s right, folks. Tony Stark is back and he’s better than ever.
Grassroots is the true story of Grant Cogswell’s 2001 campaign for a seat on Seattle’s City Council. Basing his campaign around a desire to expand the city’s monorail system, Cogswell became a serious challenger to incumbent Richard McIver by targeting an untapped zest for change that lay dormant amongst Seattle’s young adults. Grassroots is admirable in its purpose, but a little out of step in the wake of Barack Obama’s successive victories in the war for the White House.
Get cape. Wear cape. Vomit. That is the heroic mission of this week’s Friday Drinking Game – with Marvel churning out so many bloody brilliant superhero films lately, we at BFF Towers are all feeling pretty super ourselves for getting through it all. So super, in fact, that we would like to make like Tony Stark and have a bloody drink or five. As well as a leggy blonde of our choice.
James Huth’s French language Western is big, colourful and deeply silly. Sitting somewhere between Blazing Saddles and the Milky Bar adverts, Lucky Luke has all the right ingredients but none of the structure or depth to support itself as anything other than a cartoonish comedy. But with a cast boasting the likes of Jean Dujardin (in the days before he was George Valentin), and a whole lot of silly gags, you might find Lucky Luke a fun way to spend a couple of hours.
