  • TGIM: Made In 3 Mills Film Festival

While the London Film Festival is getting under-way elsewhere in the capital, there’s a much more intimate celebration of film occurring elsewhere. Hidden away in the depths of East London is the 3 Mills film studio, which has become something of a home-from-home for stop-motion animation, and has attracted its share of big live action film-makers too, in recent years. They’re hosting a four-day event to celebrate their output.

  • “Deckard is not a bloody replicant!” Blade Runner 1982 – a defence

A few days ago, Best For Film’s editor John Underwood said something very, very rash on Twitter: “Deckard was so a replicant.” Just the sort of blasé observation that would usually pass unnoticed amongst the LOLcats and nasty comments about Giles Coren… usually, yes, but not this time. Comedian, musician, musical comedian, comic musician and bard/jester extraordinaire Mitch Benn heroically decided to set the record straight and, over the course of the longest article we have ever published, now presents his defence of the much-maligned 1982 cut of Ridley Scott’s masterpiece Blade Runner. Hold on to your synthetic snakes…

  • Top 10 imaginary versus films

There is nothing we like more here at BFF Towers than seeing two totally random creatures fight it out to the death. Alien vs Predator (one, not two), Mega Shark vs. Crocosaurus, Mega Shark vs anything really… Later on this month Cockneys vs Zombies attacks our screens and to celebrate we thought it would be fun to think of the best versus films that neither man nor beast has ever thought of before. Some might say there is a reason why these films don’t exist…well we say WHATEVS! We will get a space on our mantelpiece ready for our Oscar. Let’s kick off with Strippers vs Werewolves…oh hang on…

  • Friday Drinking Game #52 – Batman

Where were you at 6am this morning? Queuing up to be one of the first people in the UK to see The Dark Knight Rises at the IMAX? Sounds like that level of commitment to the caped crusader deserves a drink. Or two. Or three. Or a whole liverful of drinks dedicated to Batman in this week’s Friday Drinking Game…

  • Cheat Sheet: Willem Dafoe

Willem Dafoe. You think you know him but really you just don’t have the first clue. So with another interesting film role out in cinemas now, we have decided to rectify this and introduce you to the weird world of Dafoe. Did you know that he was actually born William but everyone called him Willem and the name just stuck, or that he feels frustrated that he has often been overlooked for great roles because people think he is dark and twisted? Nope? Shame on you. He is also a yoga addict. Bet you didn’t know that either. Tsk, tsk, tsk.

  • Cheat Sheet: Alec Baldwin

This Wednesday marks the release of Rock of Ages, a film in which raspy-voiced funny man Alec Baldwin shares what is being touted as a “sensual song and a kiss” with our very own Russell Brand. In honour of this erotic occasion, BFF is taking a look back at the life, loves and career of our favourite Baldwin brother (sorry Daniel, Billy and Stephen).

  • Dark Shadows

The film of that TV series you’ve never heard of, Dark Shadows does justice to neither its cult classic source material nor the combined talents of Tim Burton and Johnny Depp. Fifty times longer than its trailer and half as enjoyable, Dark Shadows is one of the most tiresome, derivative and uninspiring movies you’re likely to see this year.
