  • An Education

It’s always refreshing when a thinking person’s rom-com comes around. An Education is not only beautifully constructed, but with wonderful performances, a tight script and questions of love that are difficult to wriggle out of, it’s a film that really grips its audience. Charming, sleek and funny, it’s hard not to be won over by this twisted romance. Just be careful, if we’ve learnt anything, its the danger of the power of seduction.

  • RIP Cory Haim

Former teen superstar Corey Haim has died from a suspected drugs overdose. The actor who’s most memorable work came in the late 80’s and included the cult classic ‘The Lost Boys’ had had widely documented stuggles with substance abuses. Despite these troubles he had still managed to secure work pretty regularly, with his reality T.V. show with close friend Corey Feldman, ‘The Two Coreys’ enjoyed success.

  • Jordan: The Movie

For anyone who wondered why and how on earth Katie Price was hanging around the Oscar after parties, we can reveal the horrific truth. She’s in talks with Hollywood – Hollywood, mind you – producers about creating a biopic based on her four autobiographies. Which she definitely wrote herself. Well, if Nelson Mandela can do it…

  • Tarantino Faces Kill Bill Lawsuit

Oh dear. It looks like it’s not only “The Bride” who’s out for revenge when it comes to Kill Bill. Quentin Tarantino is being sued by a man named Dannez Hunte, who claims that major plot-points for the Kill Bill films came from a treatment he submitted to Miramax in 1999.

  • New Tron Legacy Trailer!

Hold onto your pants, the first full length Tron Legacy trailer has been released. Sequel to Tron, Disney’s groundbreaking 1982 epic, Tron Legacy promises to pick up where the original left off, with stunning visuals and groundbreaking effects.

  • ‘In Memorium’ Oscars Controversy

Ever since the Oscars aired on Sunday, there has been anger directed at the creator of the ‘In Memorium’ reel for neglecting to honour Farah Fawcett.

The Charlie’s Angels actress died in June of last year after struggling with cancer since 2006, and apparently her family were hurt and saddened by the fact that she wasn’t included in the In Memorium section of the Oscar ceremony.

  • Oscars Ratings Best In 5 Years

God bless nail-biting competition. This year Oscar viewing figures have been the best in 5 years, with almost 41 million people in the US tuning in. This, of course, was mainly down to the battle of the titans that was Avatar vs The Hurt Locker, and the story was made all the juicer by the fact that the two directors used to be married. Of course, in the end Avatar walked away with just 3 awards, and The Hurt Locker stole the evening by winning Best Picture and Best Director

  • Ondine

Love blossoms when a father least expects in Neil Jordan’s modern day fairytale. Blessed with pretty shots of the Irish coast and a close-knit fishing village where everyone pokes their noses into their neighbours’ business, Ondine is a picture postcard to the Emerald Isle. British audiences who struggle with a thick accent would probably benefit from subtitles when characters chew the fat, so some of Jordan’s script is lost to the Atlantic breeze. In truth, it’s not a great loss because for all the blah blahrney, we learn very little about the protagonists or their passions, and the central romance is rather wet – like the actors after a tumble in the briny.

  • Chloe

Director Atom Egoyan probes the destructive power of obsession in this English language adaptation of Anne Fontaine’s 2003 film, Nathalie. Shot on location in wintry Toronto, which is almost as cold as some of the characters’ emotions, Chloe charts the journey of sexual re-discovery of a despairing wife whose marriage has been stuck in a rut for years. The method she chooses to reinvigorate her ailing relationship is unorthodox to say the least, unlocking deep-rooted desires that put not only herself but also her entire family in danger.
