Joss Whedon has officially confirmed what we all unofficially knew: he will be directing The Avengers.
The first Iron Man was the surprise hit of 2008 and propelled Robert Downey Jr back into super-stardom. It was the first movie from Marvel Studios, the Marvel comic group’s own production company, and was hailed as a huge success. So just two years after the first movie, Robert Downey Jr is back as the eccentric billionaire Tony Stark. But is the sequel any good? Well, no. Not really.
It’s a prospect that will have comic book fans salivating everywhere: Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator and geek god Joss Whedon is in final talks to direct Marvel’s The Avengers. This is a superhero film of such potential epicness it’s making us here at Best For Film feel very dizzy. In a good way.
Now that Fantastic Four star Chris Evans has been confirmed to play the Captain himself, the hunt is on to find an actress to play his love interest, Peggy Carter, in the upcoming Captain America film. The latest news from Hollywood is that it’s likely to be one of two British actresses: Alice Eve (pictured) or Hayley Atwell. Both have emerged as frontrunners during the ongoing screen testing for the part.
Hurrah! It’s official! Chris Evans has signed on the dotted line, and is now going to be playing Captain America in the upcoming Marvel flicks.
Well done Chris, you fought off a lot of stiff competition, with other actors considered including Michael Cassidy, Patrick Flueger, Mike Vogel, John Krasinski, Chace Crawford and Ryan Phillippe. The only problem now is that we have seen Evans in a super-flick before, as Johnny Storm in Fantastic Four. Does it matter?
Jeepers, we’re beginning to think that literally anyone could be cast as Captain America. Rather than narrowing down, the possibilities seem actually to be growing, with Ryan Philipe and Channing Tatum also now on the cards.
Hugo Weaving, who exploded onto our screens as Agent Smith in The Matrix, is set to play The Red Skull in the upcoming superhero epic. For those who don’t know the comic or the planned adaptation, The Red Skull is the Captain’s archenemy, the saboteur and spy who worked as Hitler’s right-hand man. It sounds like the two will be battling during World War Two, ending up in modern times due to their Super Solider status. For those who didn’t understand that, well done. You are not as geeky as us.
Crimety, will Marvel please just make up their mind? After stating that they’d whittled down their Captain America options to six men, Marvel have announced today that they’re also trying..
Marvel have revealed that their search for Captain America has been whittled down to just six men. The company are planning to release a nine film franchise about the famous superhero, so it’s pretty bloomin important that they choose the right man. So who are the final six? Have a look…
Captain America is coming to our screens! Joe Johnston, the man responsible (and we use the world “responsible” in the same sense as when we say “Stalin was responsible for some pretty awful stuff”) for films such as Jurassic Park III, The Rocketeer and Hidalgo reveals he’ll be helming 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger and the upcoming Jurassic Park IV.
