If Sam Worthington were a colour, he’d be transparent
Matt Damon makes an early bid for Oscar glory in Promised Land, a gentle yet compelling drama about a small farming town facing an economic and industrial meltdown. While the financial difficulties faced by its characters will resonate with a lot of people, it feels a little out of date and we never get a sense of why this particular story is being told now.
Political dramas are hot at the minute.
The Nutmeggers are pissed with Spielburg. But who are they and why are they angry?
Highly-respected thespian Daniel Day-Lewis is famously known for his extreme method acting, but if you think you’ve got him all figured out, think again. What with Lincoln hitting cinemas this Friday, we thought we’d give the multi-Oscar-nominated actor his very own Cheat Sheet that he can hang up on his wall if he ever finds space amidst all those shiny awards. So who IS Batman? The mystery remains unsolved…
Steven Spielberg’s foray into the well-trodden political battlefield of the Civil War and President Lincoln’s fight to pass a bill against slavery is a predictable candidate for the Oscars, but nonetheless has many exceptional performances to applaud. Daniel Day-Lewis in particular, proves himself to be an excellent President, and makes this worthy (if turgid) drama stand out from the crowd.
Lincoln loses out, Les Mis leads the race and Jodie Fosters comes out (again).
