Whip It is to feminism what GPS systems are to driving: a voice confidently telling you you’re on the right road, whilst you can’t help but stare around wildly, wondering where the hell you are. Sexy, grubby and exciting to watch, Whip It is certainly a cut above your average chick-flick and we’re happy to roll their way, though we’re not totally sure where they’re taking us.
For fans of 2009’s smash hit The Hangover it’s time to rejoice, as we can confirm that the original movie’s troublesome trio of Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis have all signed up for the film’s sequel. Despite earlier hesitance from the movie’s stars to commit to the sequel, it is proposed that shooting for The Hangover 2 will commence sometime in July, with Cooper reportedly so eager to commence filming that he has pulled out of rom-com This Means War (which was also due to commence filming in July).
And it looks freakin awesome. Making a motion picture based on the absolutely brilliant Scott Pilgrim comic series was going to be a risk. But judging by the trailer, it looks like it’s going to pay of
Jen wasn’t the only one who felt strapped to her seat whilst experiencing The Bounty Hunter. Joyless, clichéd and hackneyed, we never want to watch Gerard Butler in a rom-com again. Do you hear us Gerard? Do you?
It’s going to be a rom-com. That might be a lie. Tim Burton has today announced that his next project will be a stop-motion picture of The Addams Family. Kooky, creepy, dark and gothic fairytale? Tim, are you sure you want to stretch yourself this far?
Jeepers, we’re beginning to think that literally anyone could be cast as Captain America. Rather than narrowing down, the possibilities seem actually to be growing, with Ryan Philipe and Channing Tatum also now on the cards.
It’s always refreshing when a thinking person’s rom-com comes around. An Education is not only beautifully constructed, but with wonderful performances, a tight script and questions of love that are difficult to wriggle out of, it’s a film that really grips its audience. Charming, sleek and funny, it’s hard not to be won over by this twisted romance. Just be careful, if we’ve learnt anything, its the danger of the power of seduction.
It’s always nice to stay ahead of the curve, if only so you can feel unneccessarily smug in front of friends and loved ones. With this in mind Best For Film brings you what you need to know about next week’s film releases. Have a read, plan your week accordingly, and practice that lovely self-satisfied smile we all love you for…
For those who can’t quite face the horrors of watching Valentine’s Day on Valentine’s Day, you’ll be glad to know that another option is at hand. Pretty Woman is getting a limited re-release on Valentine’s Day, celebrating 21 years (21 years?!) of moulding women into whatever you want them to be.
That’s right. This year’s Cannes Film Festival is going to be presided over by Tim Burton as jury president. And we have to admit, we can’t think of many other film-makers with his level of pedigree. The man just doesn’t put a foot wrong. Ever.
