After the desolate wasteland of 2010 (The Crazies, and…?), 2011 has actually been a half decent year for horror movies: Kill List, Black Swan, Stake Land, Troll Hunter, Julia’s Eyes, Attack the Block (sort of), the first half of Insidious, the second half of Scream 4… But if early whisperings are to be believed, 2012 is going to be much better. LIST TIME.
A welcome return from director Joe Dante, The Hole is another fine contribution to the ‘family horror’ genre that helped make his name. Providing both laughs and scares, it credits its child viewers with an ability that too many kids films lack; the intelligence to be treated like adults. Bringing the darkness, but keeping things light, it will entertain both youngsters and grown-ups alike. And it all comes with the added benefit of 3D. So, go on – have a little fun and face your biggest fears.
New Gremlins 3D on the way? A new film in the Gremlins has been talked out pretty much since Gremlins 2: The New Batch hit our screens back in 1990. Though Joe Dante has publicly stated he won’t be involved (speaking to horror movie site Bloody Disgusting last year, he didn’t exactly mix his words: “They won’t be coming to me. I can tell you that for a fact.”) the studio bods seem keen.
