Now it seems there is split opinion when it comes to Pixar’s Cars – many people see it as the weakest of Pixar’s films to date (which, to be honest, is still a pretty high achievement). We’ve known for a while that the studio have been working on a sequel, and they’ve just released their first teaser trailer. It doesn’t exactly give much away.

The heat is on to be the best gosh darn villain the world has ever seen. And when your competition is out nicking the Egyptian pyramids and other great wonders of the world, you know you’ve got to up your game. So Gru sorts himself out with the ultimate secret weapon in his grand master scheme; three orphan girls. And before you get the wrong idea, he doesn’t put them through an intensive training course and turn them into child soldiers, rather, he uses the power of cookie selling to get the ball a-rolling.

Pixar’s relationship with women has always had a slight question-mark over it- after all, its undeniable that they’ve yet to include a single lead female character in their impressive repertoire. Their next film, Brave would have been the first to have a female director. Power to the girls, and all that. However, rumour now has it that Chapman has left the studio, leaving the director’s chair empty. Is it simply a case of creative differences, or is there something more sinister at play?

Despicable Me is a kids film that may not have been made by Pixar but it could have been: The story of a supervillain struggling to control an army of minions and three orphaned girls will provide real heart and sardonic wit along with the zany animation slapstick.

Pixar’s Toy Story 3 has gone to infinity and beyond in the last 7 days, making a record debut of £21.19 million.

For anyone who is debating whether to see Toy story 3 this summer, I can assure you that you will not be disappointed. Pixar delivers another side-splitting, visual masterpiece guaranteed to have you smiling (and maybe crying, but just a little).

With the final instalment of the Toy Story trilogy opening in cinemas this week, it’s no wonder that parents (and grown-ups furtively pretending to be parents in order to justify their DVD collection) are stocking up on the celebrated parts one and two. Already being hailed as one of history’s most successful film trilogies, it looks like we’ll be seeing a lot more DVD love from Woody, Buzz and the entire Toy Story team. And we couldn’t be happier about it.

Rumours have been zipping back and forth for a while now, but we can officially confirm that Pixar are currently working on Monster Inc 2. We’ve got mixed feelings about this news, as messing with a glorious original like Monsters Inc is always going to be playing with fire, but at the same time, this is Pixar. Generally speaking, these guys don’t do messing up.

Finally, a kids film that deserves its 3D pricetag. Since Avatar, we’ve seen a lot of gratuitous 3D labels being slapped on films that didn’t need it, purely to hike up the cost of the tickets. Even watching the hallowed Up – as beautiful as it was -we never really thought those pesky glasses added much. However, with How To Train Your Dragon, Dreamworks have created a truly stunning piece of 3D film; immersive, beautiful and gorgeously rich. The story may be a little run of the mill, but the overall experience make this film a must-see for kids and big kids everywhere.
