After Sony announced that Spiderman 4 was going to be scrapped in favour of a Peter Parker Preview, the first question on everyone’s minds (apart from, “really? Can’t we just think of a new idea instead?”) was, so who’s going to play him?

In what we think as pretty sad news, the original owners of the Miramax company – brothers Bob and Harvey Weinstein – have failed in their bid to buy back their company Miramax from Disney.

Along with the always cool Sam Rockwell, Kim Catrall and Bette Midler, Pixie will be starring in The Second Coming, a comic re-vamping of the traditional nativity, in which a young pregnant girl travelling to Bethlehem – Maryland USA, discovers that the second coming of Jesus is imminent. Rockwell is set to play her boyfriend Joe, Kim Catrall will be playing her mother, and Bette Midler will be taking the part of the innkeeper. Or something.

You know us English types. If there’s one thing we hate, it’s reading subtitles. Reading? Are you mad? Why should we? Let the rest of the world not understand, goddammit, we’re just going to shut our eyes and hold up a big ol’ stop sign to international culture. Thank goodness then, that an English speaking version of Swedish mega-hit The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is being made. And it’s even got an initial release date – of December 2011.

Though it’s not going to be opening in the UK until August, Shrek 4 has topped the US chart in its opening weekend, knocking off Iron Man 2 from the number one spot. However, its not taken anywhere near the amount Shrek 3 raked in – just $71.2 million in comparison with $121 million.

As the mega-success of The Lovely Bones revealed, there’s big money to be made in an adaptation of a classic weepy. Lynne Ramsey and actress Tilda Swinton have revealed that they plan to turn Lionel Shriver’s bestselling novel We Need To Talk About Kevin into a motion picture.

There’s nothing like new blood to pump some life into a dying franchise, and no-one knows that better than the people over at Dimension Films. To brighten up the tired old Scream series director Wes Craven is hiring a lot of nubile young things to murder in colourful ways. So who’s on board?

Looks like Paul Greengrass has fallen in love with a brand new project – and when we say ‘brand new’ we mean the Hollywood version of brand new, ie, a re-make of something old. He’ll be helming a new interpretation of Treasure Island, produced by Sherlock Holmes’ Lionel Wigram, and apparently it’ll be a stylized version of the classic tale. What that actually means, we don’t know. But hey, stylized! Sounds fancy, right?

After mega-arguments with Michael Bay, super-babe Megan Fox has confirmed that she has quit the Transformers series. Apparently Paramount are seeing this as a good thing, as “giving Shia Labeouf a new love interest makes more sense for the story”. Yes. A logical and emotional mature storyline is, after all, the reason we all go and watch Transformers.

Drew Barrymore has cast an interested eye over a project entitled Surrender Dorothy, in which a young girl discovers she is the great, great granddaughter of Dorothy. She finds her ruby red slippers and must use them to stop the Wicked Witch of the West from seizing control of Earth and Oz. Apparently Drew first thought to play the lead herself, but its now looking like she’s more interested in directing – a smart move considering the strength of her directorial debut Whip It.
