Rise Of The Guardians is a technically impressive piece of work from the folks at DreamWorks who brought you the spectacular How To Train Your Dragon. It really is quite lovely to watch. Unfortunately, this is where we must get off the positivity train and enter the dark and rotting sled that is everything else about this film. The plot, the characters, the story – all must obey the cardinal rule of a kids film: Don’t be boring. It is a rule that Rise Of The Guardians breaks with aplomb.

Talking animals – check. Journey of a lifetime – check. Ryan Reynolds – double check.

In a month that’s already overcrowded with supernatural themed animations, Hotel Transylvania is the runt of the litter. Frantic, over-manic direction, a severe dearth of laughs and a predictable plot are bad enough, but when you factor in Adam Sandler trampling all over proceedings and doing another Stupid Fucking Voice, then you’ve really got problems.

Hey BFI London Film Festival! Stop being selfish and hogging all the patrons, the Play Poland Film Festival has just touched down in London and it wants to get in on the action! Running for four nights the Play Poland Film Festival has a whole bunch of Polish short films and animations for you to watch, the majority of which have debuted at international film festivals to much critical acclaim. We know it’s not fair to bring this to your attention right in the middle of the BFI London Film Festival but we’re sure once you see what’s on offer, you’ll find a way to accommodate both. Thank God It’s Monday!
