Stephenie Meyer, author of the multi-million selling Twilight series, has undoubtedly induced a chorus of global teenage whooping with the announcement that she is to release another book – for free. However, the book is not a sequel to any of the preceding books in the series; it is a mere novella spin off.
Screaming hordes of hormones, look no further! The new trailer for the third twilight film has just been released, and it’s all looking just as dark and penetrating as the first two. Whew. So this time around, Bella has to make a heart-breaking choice, will she choose to live an undead life with Edward or a furry future with Jacob?
Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner of Twilight fame join Zac Efron and Miley Cyrus as Oscar hosts this year, a decision which some find surprising. With the teen market being marketed too so heavily, some people are worried that the Academy Awards might be losing a little of its prestige.
Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke has signed up to direct a gothic retelling of Little Red Riding Hood under the watchful eye of Warner Bros. And it looks like the girl in that famous cape will be none other than Amanda Seyfried (of Mamma Mia, Mean Girls and the up-coming Dear John). But nothing’s been signed, so we’re not out of the woods yet. (couldn’t resist)
Imagine if Steven Spielberg directed Twilight or James Cameron the first Harry Potter. That’s the level of hype we’re talking here, when one of this generation’s best-selling books joins forces with one of the biggest directors of our time in this month’s The Lovely Bones.
Warning – don’t go and see this film expecting another Twilight. The vamps in Daybreakers belong firmly to the old school of demonesque bad guys who have overrun the earth and must be hunted down with machine guns, exploding crossbows and other such gore-porn paraphernalia. The action is set 10 years in the future, where the human population has been infected with vampirism and blood has become as big a business as Coca-Cola. It’s up to Ethan Hawke’s erstwhile hematologist to save the population from themselves, but mostly he just ends up shooting a lot of stuff.
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn is the fourth and final book in the series. Wyck Godfrey told the LA times that filming is set to commence in autumn 2010 shortly after the release of the third film in the series Eclipse.
We already know that nocturnal fanged creatures are in this season. After the success of Twilight and its vampires, and as we look forward to Benicio del Toro’s performance in The Wolfman, it was inevitable that the 1985 Teen Wolf would get a 21st Century makeover.
It’s hard to talk objectively about Twilight without getting absorbed in the somewhat frightening teen-girl hype that has surrounded first the books, then the movies. Stephenie Meyer’s four-book series about a young girl caught in a love triangle between a vampire and a werewolf (a problem all of us can certainly relate to on some level) raced up the bestseller lists faster than publishers could say ‘Harry Potter’.
