Long-term BFFer Harry Harris sent us this blog at half one in the morning, which probably means he wrote it drunk – still, when you’re talking about the finest film to ever star Tom Cruise and some futuristic mittens there’s no other way to work. We present his very personal tribute to Minority Report.

This year Hollywood seems bent on exploring the possibilities for our future. Tom Cruise’s Oblivion (out now!), Matt Damon’s Elysium and Will Smith’s After Earth (both still pending) have their own special vision for what the world will be like. Never ones to be left out, here at BFF we decided that a Top 10 edition had to be devoted to the worlds we’ve already come across, drawing back the curtain to unveil all the utopian and dystopian fates that await us.

For our fourth Monday Face/Off, we at BFF Towers have decided to mark imminent release of Stoker with a titanic battle over the worth of Australian Oscar winner Nicole Kidman. In the film, Tom Cruise’s ex plays the unstable mother of India (not the nation), whose father has just passed away, and his mysterious brother comes to move in with them. Tagged: DO NOT DISTURB THE FAMILY, we shall determine whether dearest Nicole is disturbingly good or simply disturbing. In the pro camp stands Ray, ready to defend NK’s honour: in the anti-camp stands Carlotta, sharpening her knives in anticipation of a slaughter. Let the butchery begin!

The adaptation of Lee Child’s best-selling book One Shot, Tom Cruise has some mighty big literary shoes to fill. This film could have so easily been a mechanical and soulless action film, relying purely on the big name stars and the widely-read source material. In fact, Jack Reacher is beautifully shot, brilliantly acted and far surpasses the traditional man-against-the-world action flick. It never pushes the envelope too far, but Jack Reacher will leave you wanting more.
